Thank you for your replies. The truck was back at the dealer today and the service manager said this is a very common problem with Fords and they can ONLY handle 2000# of tongue weight without air bags. Ford does advertise them to handle 15-25% of towing capacity which is 18,100# in my case but they can't and thats a fact. Since I haven't loaded the trailer with horses and attempted to pull it I can't agrue that with weight in the rear there would be less on the tongue. It still wouldn't matter with the poor suspension Ford puts in their Heavy Duty "WORK" Trucks. Again thanks for all the advise and suggestion I certainly did go in today with tons of info....
I think your service manager is making up stories to fit a problem that he's not sure how to correct. I have an 05 F350 SC 4x4 SRW that carries 2700# pin wt. 5th wheel. No problems rides very good. Handles concrete freeway better than my wifes 04 Grand Caravan. I have carried over 5500# (crushed rock) with no problems and good ride and handling.
The trailer companys engineer called and said with trailer loaded with 3 horses it would lighten up the pin weight and remember this was weighed at the grainery so who knows if their wghts were truly accurate. I am tired of fighting with the dealer so I have an appointment to put airbags in. If that doesn't solve the problem I'll be trading that puppy in for a Dodge!
I think you'll have more problems with the !DODGE! Like c.f. moore said, I also think your dealer has no clue what he is talking about. Its got to be the trailer, not the truck.
I've pulled this trailer for two years with no problem... My 98 chevy and my freinds 04 dodge had no problems with it ...Also this trailer was used for the Rfd TV program "Best of America by Horseback and they had no problems...The only problem has been THIS Truck....
