The guys in the brake forum informed me that there were no F350's made before 79. Is this true? Mine is a 62. The title says F35JG230621, F350 right? The weight is 4480. Please help. I asked them what year was the first disc brake installed on the front of the F350 or F250. Set me straight.
There's been an F-350 since 1953, the first year the designation was used. Before that they were F-3's from 48-52. The first 3 digits of your serial number says it all. It's a F-350 2wd. I believe 1972 was the first year for disc, but only as an option. I may be off on the year slightly. This applies to 2wd. 76 was the first year for discs on a 3/4 or 1 ton 4x4.

F-250's started getting disc brakes as an option in 1968, my '72 has them. I think by then they were standard, not an option, since my truck has not even got power steering.
I think whoever you were talking to in the brake forum has the one tons mixed up with the F150, which came in the late 70's

I read the brake thread in question, I can see where the confusion comes in, you were talking about 4x4's there, but not here. I honestly have no idea when the first factory one ton 4x4's were made.
They were Marmon-Harrington conversions for a long time, well into the Slick era. If your truck was a factory 4x4 , following the logic of the VIN codes, it would be a code 36, not 35. Just like a half ton is an 11 not a 10 and a 3/4 ton is a code 26 not a 25.

I will check the factory manual on F350s for 62 tonight. JC i think you are partially correct. like the factory 61' uni with a F10 prefix.......
Factory F100 and 250 production started in 59' the F350s i am not sure of. I looked a a supposed factory 65 F350 but it had eight lugs mated case and a date code on the front axle of 1977..LOL

F35JG230621 is this a two wheel or four wheel VIN number? My truck is a four wheel. Sorry for the confusion. I am just looking for a newer frame (4x4) with disc brakes in the front, preferably F350 or F250.
Jowilker-- if I asked a brake question in here, would you have sent it to the brake forum or kept it in here? I wasn't sure so i went to the brake forum , did not intentionally under estimate the wisdom in this forum.

I generally never send a poster to another forum. I feel we have some of the most knowlegable folks in the world right here. These members are willing to share there knowlege and help their fellow truck owners. I visit other sites and know a lot of the guys here use other sites also. Most of the things that I post about I have experenced. I have bought two donor trucks, sold parts that I couldn't use and upgraded to projects for zero cost in money. I run long tube headers on my truck and don't recommend them. I cut the complete floor pan from from a 78 so I know it is the same as my 66.
You are welcome to offer a differing opinion here but if it wont hold water, you will be called out on it. I don't moderate the brake forum so I can't say what they are posting over there, but feel that what you get here cna be taken to the bank. IMHO
What may help is to post the entire warranty tag. THe F350 is a little differing from the 100 250 tags in information given.
It will tell us buy the axle front and rear letters or numbers just what was put in factory. I have seen many a conversion with date coded parts, these trucks were converted at the dealer or by specialty shops and retained the ford warranty.
With wanting to swap in a new front axle a straight one ton unit from a ford will do. Most you will need to do is possibly fabricate a new front drive shaft and relocate the spring perches to the leaf springs on your truck. I would reccomend adapt a GM type PS pump driven power brake setup from a K3500 or C3500 truck for the front disc brakes and rear drums.
