I have a 1994 Ford F250 with the 351W 5.8L, I need to know does anyone know where i can find a place to get an engine for it, I was pulling my race car on the highway and my engine lost all *****. It had 157,9xx miles on it so i have decided instead of fixing the one I got i am going to just put in a new one, can anyone help?
Steve
depends what you want to spend. you can get a reman from napa or another one of those chain stores. or get a bit better quality and go with jasper or few others. try searching the web. are you wanting a stock rebuild?
Yeah i am planning on just putting in a stock engine. I think i will probally get a reman, unless i can find a company durable, and dependable enough. If i am going to put in a brand new engine i want to make sure they are reliable.
were are you located? might ask some local machine shops what they would charge to build a motor. It is always nice to have someone to talk with and go back to with an issue. some of the chain stores carry a lot of BS if you run into issues. just remember you get what you pay for.
I am up by Duluth Minnesota. I have looked into it from shops but you dont know who actually cares and who deosnt. THere are som many shops out there jsut to get money and could care less abotu the product.
I would run a stockish 460 with ported and polished intake and exaust with 2.3"/1.9" exaust and summit brand headers. a 250/260 duturation at seat to seat with 110 lobe seperation angle and 105 intake centerline. 8.5:1 compression. I would spend no more than $900 and expece 600 ft/lbs of torque at 2000 rpm and 430 hp at 4500 rpm.
I think a 351W is a great motor but you may be happyer with more torque.
Or depending on how you like to run the motor on the highway you may just want to re gear it to 4.56 or so.
Your joking right about the 460. no quality build for a motor like that is gonna be less then a grand. not to mention the rest of expenses in having to swap trannies, motor mounts etc...
you can get gobs of torque from a 351w by stroking to a 393 or 408 but that build will cost 3-4k done properly
$900 thats extrdemely low for something of that caliber. After all the swaping of tranny, mounts, and everything else, since i would be getting that kind of power i would jsut put in a 7.3L. But since i already have one of them in a truck for pulling horse trailer i want something minor for my race trailer. I liked the power the 351 gave out before it took the damage.
I overhaul junkyard motors with larger valves, new pistons (stock), rings, barings, summit headers, rv cam, stock intake, and I do my own port and polish of the carburater, intake manafold, and heads. The only mods are headers, valves, port and polish, and rv cam. At my local junk yard I can get trannys for $150 each, but what you want is what you should get. I just do things low buck.
I can se why it is cheaper if you do the work yourself, the only problem with that is that most peopl edotn knwo how to do that. I have done all that and then some, but do not have the tools anymore to do most of that stuff.
Ok i can see why it is less on the money side becasue you do all your own work. I have done quite a bit of what you have done adn then some. Unfortunrtly I do not have the tools for those kinds of jobs anymore so I cannot do any of the work myself. Oh well let someone else do it, then i am supporting the econ.
