Can someone tell me what the timing should be for a 68 F100 (360). Just installed an ignitor which works great and would appreciate the timing so I can set it with a light.
The best way to time that truck with the new ignition system, is to "POWER TIME" it.
That is, to advance the timing until you hear a pinging under load and operating temp.
Retard just until the pinging stops, then retard another 2-degress.
That way you will have the best performance out of the truck, and MPG.
Interesting, the ’68 Ford Truck Shop Manual, Vol. II says 6BTDC for the standard and 10BTDC for the automatic. Seems like Chiltons got it bass-ackward. If it has emission controls, then it’s 6BTDC for both. For power tuning, Ford says you can go up to 5 more additional degrees advance but that no further increase in performance will be obtained with any more.
Yeah, 10 degrees BTC is correct for an automatic. Furthermore, I think the timing is set with the engine idle at 550 RPM. Make sure you disconnect the vacuum advance as well.
