Lots of folks complain about the difficult steering that SD's have at idle or with bigger tires.
Now most of the off-road guys know about hydro assist and you can get it for cheaper than this if you piece by piece it. But, this includes the drilled and tapped steering box, lines, mounts, etc.
Nice thing about this is, everything fits right and you only have to weld on the 2 tabs to the crossover. Everything else bolts on.
Just a link for those that are looking to make the steering on your SD "one finger easy"
I dont have this steering problem I running 37's why can you just step of the gas to rasie the RPM's to give the pump more pressure and flow to over come the big tires.
If there is a lot of pressure on the tires (i.e. off-roading, backing a heavy trailer, or just moving slow, etc). Mine for example, with the front ARB engaged you are going one direction....STRAIGHT. Try to turn with the front end locked and the steering box is screaming.
The steering box on the SD's is not super strong when mixed with large, wide tires. The sector shaft gets a TON of pressure put on it and is prone to breakage. This eleviates this, as it adds approx 2500 lbs of pressure to assist the steering. It's hooked right to the crossover, so it takes all the pressure off the steering box.
Like I said, just a suggestion for folks that aren't happy with the steering. This will be my next mod to the truck. Just gotta justify to the wife why I "need" it.

I've spent more than 1K on crap for this truck that I didn't truely need or that even had that much effect on how the truck ran or performed. If I can put something on that makes it perform better in the situations that I put it in, I'm all for it.
I REALLY would have liked it the other day when I got stuck and the stock steering just could not move the tires to turn the direction I wanted to go. Ooooops....
i did the hydro assist on my 76 for 200 bucks, best investment i made....!! if you tap you own box, get a ram somewhere else have the fittings and hoses made you can save a ton of money over that kit
hydro assist is definitly worth the time for larger tires on a truck that sees off road time
bfr, i got an 06 reg cab 250 4x4 xlt v-10 auto with vinyl floor, dark stone exterior and tan interior, i just added clearance lights from ford the other night
ive moved back home to atlanta and my 05 f-150 was not cutting it for my new job. its nice having a lwb with a toolbox versus a stepside swb
im not sure what you mean about the hydroboost problem but the ps pump will run hydro assist and hydroboost fine, its really a very simple setup the hardest part is taking the box apart to tap it, but if you do it carefully and watch how everything goes together you can save yourself ALOT of money over the kits
Sounds like a sweet ride. How ya like that V10? When ya taking the sawzall too it?
Got any pics yet? Ohhh yeah, what's this about possible parting out your big orange truck?
He was talking about he lack of power steering these things have at low RPM. A lot of the problems have been low fluid, air in the system or just a crap steering box. After guys have flushed their steering system, most of the problems went away.
But, it still doesn't cut it for bigger wheels and tires.
