Lately and after doing the regular maintenance where they changed all oils and filters, I started to experience a serious performance problem with the transmission, it behaves like crazy!. Sometimes the change of gears is firm and timely and sometimes it just does the opposite. Specially when driving up ward. It stays longer in the first gear and just does not respond. Frustrating response
Yes, reflashed the PCM lately and the result was good, changing gear improved. Then I took it for major maintenence several weeks ago and since then it started to behave strange!. sometimes it is perfect, most of the time you will hear the engin sound going higher but the car is not moving, and the rpm going to about 2000 before changing the gear. When it changes I feel like the shift is skipping the next gear because the response is bad.
I don't know it could be the reflash! but the dealer say it is the latest (2006), it could be the spped sensor!
I'm not sure if the diff is the same as my old F 250, but right on top of it is a couple of wires and under that is the speed sensor, they were notorious for failing and it felt like a bad miss or tranny problem. About $40.00 at the dealer and 10 minutes to change yourself.
either way if it fine before but not after go bust some chops . ask to talk to the manager and tlak to him away from any one esle ,explain the problem and ask that it be carefully check out make sure you say how you feel. just some times not letting them have it in front of others gets you further
I had a similar problem at about 45 mph when it was trying to change gears....Took it in 2 different times and I finally had a tranny guy go with me. They ended up replacing quite a bit of stuff in the tranny. They said something about the upper bands being bad.. My advice is to get one of the tranny mechanics take a ride with you so they can feel what is going on. I was still under warranty. good luck.
I would try the speed sensor first, if it still does it, wipe it off and take it back. It's real easy to change. I hate dealing with service departments, most of the time something else gets messed up besides what you originally went in for.
I took the car agin to the dealer, I mentioned to them all the possibilities which you mentioned here! they tested the car with their (old!!!)protable computer, they say there is no error according to the computer, fuel pressure and MAF sensor are ok!. They have the truck know for full checkup.
One important thing, I wish you give me your opinion about!. The technician who was handling the test was wondering if the the reflash is the problem???!!!
Over a month ago they updated the PCM to the latest and things seemed very good after the update, now the performance of the car is deteriorating.
Could it be the update of the PCM?
Can we back out from this update?
Anyone know the code for the latest PCM update, date, release…?
The dealer came back to me saying they beleive it is a transmission problem, they will open it and let me know which parts need replacment..they suspect the clutch and torque converter.
during the first test they said it is NOT transmission.
