Fuel system input.

im finally doing it. i was mowing today and i was thinking about it, i want to put some more miles on my tires because they are brand new. dont need the wheels and tires now.

im going to do my fuel system now. starting at the tank (already have the hutch mod done) and i am going to add a carter 4070 right at the tank outlet. then a Dahl 150 filter 2 micron just as Jtharvey has. sorry if this sounds as if i am a copier, but i wanted to do what jeremy has done now for a while, but my funds were in the wrong place. now im doing it. i want a purring kitty under the hood. anyway from there im going into the stock pump, running 3/8" line from there to the y-block. im removing the fuel filter bowl and everything all in one shot. i plan on BTS big oil eventually, so im going to get the bowl out of the way anyway. my "justified" motive for this chapter in PMSmoddage is that my filter needs changing, and i "can't get the lid off, oh well i'll i just remove it. oops, i need this and this, no problem-o". then out of that block, into a DieselInnovations reg return fuel system, running about 70 psi, and the boost ratio enabled also, i have no wastegate. i want Dieselinnovations because their lines are blue and im going for the blue look under the hood. i also think they feed both banks from the rear instead of factoryish like ITP has.

so there's my plan, im not going to keep it a secret. however i need some help gathering parts up. im leaving sunday morning early, going to a concert tomorrow so i will have tomorrow morning to empty out my bank account. and i would love to have some parts waiting on the door step when i come home.

1. those of you with lift pumps. specifically the carter 4070. where did you get it, how much? i have my ideas for mounting it. i looked and i can't seem to find any without having to fill out my "vehicle info" that is required on the order form. they wouldn't understand. those of you with other pumps, chime in too please.

2. where to get the Fuel y-block,and how much? i saw on Jeremy's gallery that he said it was from Summit....? i dont know if im right here, but i believe so. i searched and found some. no pics though, im not buying without pics.

other than that, i think i have it all made. some trips to the store to get some fittings maybe, and other than that, i get to treat my baby to a two week nap in the garage.

thanks for the help fellow FTE'rs.

Here's where I got mine http://www.jegs.com/webapp/wcs/store...chItemId=32329 .

BTW, I'm right off I-80 in Iowa, but I'm hitting the road myself early next week. Have a good trip!

Now, that's a smart move Kris. Here's your Earl's Y-block, straight from Summitt, just under $30. This is the exact one I have:
http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku'

And hey, I don't consider it copying....I look at as a compliment that someone would want to do what I've done.

IMO, the Motorguard MG 60 filter installed like mine is a better filter and has been proven over the years, many years, compare to any other unit and see
how well made it is and it's liable to stand up too most any road debris hits compared to the thin walled spin on. TP element is redicously cheap to replace.
I believe Ralph is working on a heated version of the MG filter.
The Carter prepump from Jegs is dong well on my rig so far. I'm willing to bet with that pump alone you'll never need any other fuel delivery mods from the tank to engine to achieve BIG torque and feed ANY injector. Proof can be had
with the fuel pressure gauge.
Just my .02 worth.

thanks for the input.

so far i've ordered:

-Carter 4070 Pump from Jegs, thanks Hink. -$75

-Earl's Fuel Y block, from Summit-$50 thanks JT. ill be out next weekend.

-Reg. return fuel system from Dieselinnovations. blue hoses= -$450

- Dahl 150 2 micron filter, vacuum gauge, and non-related fuel system parts- black air boots for top of engine, visible ones only, from Dieselsite -$270

thanks for the stuff guys, anything inherent that i'll need? i will surely have to make some runs to the store for fittings. Lowes or HomeDepot ok? i cant wait to have some stuff on the doorstep..

after writing down the prices, it feels as if im missing something...

Sounds good Kris. How'd ya like that Summit shopping experience? I know when I ordered some of my items from JEGs, I thought I was in good shape with free shipping until they added that "handling" charge that ended up being more than shipping costs would have been. Hmmm

As for fittings, Lowes and Home Depot here are pitterfully stocked. I've had good luck at the local Ace Hardware and both AZ and the O parts stores. They had a surprisingly good selection.

Good luck, and smart move keeping those wheels for now.

I haven't had experience with Sumit. When I order from www.Jegs.com they get me the parts fast. I use the sandwich adapters mostly. I use a lot of universal 189 Perma-Cool adapters.
I'm not too much into non-submicronic fuel and oil filters. The fuel filter is as important as the lube oil filter. I'm told the clearances in an injection system are about 2 microns. Not many 2 micron filters can filter many 2 micron abrasives. Filter companies do too much averaging. If a filter that cleans fuel is too dense for the fuel pump the fault is not with the filter. You need a pump that can do the job. I did a fleet of Powerstrokes and construction equipment about 10 years ago. The guy had a Bob Cat loader with a Perkins diesel engine. The wimpy fuel pump couldn't push the diesel thru it. I told him he would either need to find the loosest wound junk TP or install a better transfer pump. I didn't have any trouble with the Powerstrokes. I have a fuel pressure gauge on my old 84 6.9. I will be converting an old LuberFiner to take a heating coil and one roll of Scott Center pull paper towel. For waste cooking oil you can't get too much submicronic filtration. I am doing a fleet of garbage trucks that use 100 percent Bio Diesel. That's going to be interesting.
