I just installed a Volant air intake in my 4.6. I would rate the install a 3 out of 10 (10 being the hardest) since the directions (or shall I say a picture of the finshed product) was misleading. Regardless, I installed it and it sounds awesome. The sound of the VOLANT is noticeable around 2500 RPM through 4000RPM and I definitely feel the difference in power. My Edge Programmer also showes that my MGP improved as well. Flowmaster, Edge, and Volant is a great combo for that extra boost!!
Nice! I've been thinking about getting one to polish off my Magnaflow and Edge that I have. I'll probably follow the How-To guide on this sites home page though Did it change the sound of your exhaust too or is it just noiser under the hood?
2) And no to the question about putting in the tube that goes in the front. I believe they used to offer it for the 5.4 and I think that they dont even offer it anymore due to rubbing issues....
So much for a "COld air intake" the edge is reading my incoming air at 136 degree. which it is in the middle to upper 90's outside. But i an building a custom full enclosure for it and using the stock air duct on the driver side to get cooler air from outside the engine compartment to it. Ill post pics and tell ya if it makes a difference when i have finished it.
I just popped my hood... the factory setup is already a cold air intake. The intake tube goes straight out to the drivers side fender. Hmm... maybe I wont spend another $300 - $400 on a new CAI setup.
Althought the non-factory setup have to be doing something - suckin in more air i guess - if it's making the exhaust louder....
Just a simpliar design. One tube straight into the throttle body. The stock one is more like a maze then straight in. A CAI does make the exhaust a little louder but it mostly gave mine a lot deeper tone.
I installed the ram air tube when I installed my Volant on my 04 Lariat 4x4. The tire rubs when I turn the wheel all the way. If I had it to do over again I would make my own tube. It wouldn't be that difficult and it would not rub.
JHag04FX4IN ANSWER TO COLD AIR do you have the Volant my temps read about the same as yours around town, but on the hyw at 80mph outsid temp is 96 deg. IAT is 104 deg. May be some other people will post their speeds and temps and what intake they use

Reason: wrong ouote
I agree that the factory unit has a CAI set up from factory....however, I still noticed a difference especially in MGP with the Volant...I do feel a bit more power in the midrange with the CAI....Plus, the sound is just awfully tasty
