parking brake problems
'68 f100, 2wd. had to completely rebuild the brakes when i bought it 2 years ago. brakes work great...except that somewhere along the line, the parking brake stopped holding.
under the truck, you could see that the line running to the driver's side rear wheel had a lot of slack in it- so i opened up the drum, and the little spring-cable (technical term) had slipped out of the notch in the parking brake bracket.
i disassembled the brake setup, put the cable back in the bracket, and put everything back together. worked like a charm.
but now, three weeks later...the same thing has happened, to the same wheel.
what could be causing this?
thanks,
sam
Steve,
i haven't noticed any unusual vibrations...but it is 30 years old, and i don't have much to compare it to...

i used all new hardware when i rebuilt the brakes- but i can't remember if the parking brake bracket came with the brake rebuild kit, or if i re-used what was already there. i'll take the drum off again this weekend, and double-check it.
thanks for the input-
sam
just a thought ;-)
