I have replaced a 240/3m in a 66 SWB with a 360/C6 from a 76 LWB. Is there a direct bolt-in driveshaft available from a 70s SWB, or do I have to have one custom made?
The yoke should have a witness line on it, from where it rubbed on the rear seal, or the rear bushing internal to the tailshaft housing.
I inserted the yoke to the witness line, and turned it so that the holes for the U-joint caps were parallel to the ground.
Then I measured from the outside of the transmission yoke to the inside curve of the differential yoke.
It fits perfectly, and I can fully load the truck with no bottoming out (because it is too long), nor have I lost a driveshaft bouncing over railroad tracks (because it is too short).
My drive shaft guy wanted the measurement from the center of the U-joint to the center of the U-joint. Came out perfect. 180 Bucks and that included a new yoke and two new joints. Talk to your driveline shop and provide the information they want.
