I'm just beginning an engine swap of a 347 stroker motor into an '86 Camaro... Anyone know of a reasonably priced stand alone harness for the fuel injection and other electronics on the engine, or is it best to use a harness from a factory 5.0 car???? Thanks for the help.
Sounds like a pretty nice swap.
You could either go with a Megasquirt system to run the fuel and DSII for the ignition system, or run a reprogrammed factory system. The factory system is more complex, and it controls spark timing, but it's all plug and play short of telling it how to run a 347. The Megasquirt system needs to be pieced together from a kit and parts you supply.
If you do go with a Ford system, I would use a later mass-air system, it will be a lot easier to tune to the larger engine than a speed-density system.
Thanks for the advice, guys. Just came up with a stock harness and 302 out of a Mark 8.... Is this a good place to start? I do like the idea of using a Ford harness and some chip work on the computer.....
PS-- I'm one of them dinosaur carb guys....Any help or advice is really appreciated...Also, any advice on a couple of good books that would help my understanding of the EFI system and how to go about some performance mods? MAF is the best system for the 347, right?
