302 to 460

I have a 1995 F150 Super cab 4x4 with a 302 automatic in it. I want to put a 460 with a c6 and still have 4x4 how hard is this or is there a better transmission to use... any tips would be great

The 460 was installed in the F-250&350, up until the body style change. I would find a donor truck, as you are going to need a ton of small misc. parts. Not to mention computer, EFI, exhaust, etc. Or consider stroking the 302. You can get almost the same low end torque as a stock 460 without nearly as much cost or trouble. Good luck.

I have to agree with Holland, it would be a can of worms changing everything you would need to change to make the 460 work. A stroker kit and a good towing cam that makes good low end torque would be the ticket. I own a 78 Bronco with a 400. That one would be very easy to change out because the 400 used the same bellhousing as the 460. I considered changing it to a 460 at one time because of the lack of power the 400 had. Instead I opted to keep the 400 and after a few mods it had all the power one could want from it. I did away with the smog pump and other expendable pollution controls, recamed it with a cam designed for towing and advanced the cam timing by six degrees. This gave me lots of low end torque. Installed headers and roller rockers and topped it off with a Holly 500 CFM two barrel. It made a really sweet truck and did really good four wheeling in the mountains.

Anything can be done if you want it bad enough, I guess it just depends on how much time, effort, and money you want to spend on it. If you are doing this because you want more power for four wheeling, then I would say it is a total waste of time and effort. However if you want it for highway use that would be more practical, but it is still going to be a can of worms, even if you do use a carb on it. If you live in a state where they do smog inspections you will be in trouble with the carb. I personally would not make the change, I would do as Holland said and build a stroker, it would simplify things considerably. That is just my opinion now, and you may be a lot more adventurous than I am and be ready to jump in with both feet.
