Sputtering, rough idle, no power
2000 Excursion, 4x4, 7.3 PSD, 110,000 miles. Superchips - high perf setting.
Here are my symptoms:
Severe loping, no power, studdering. If it was a gas engine I would say it was a timing issue or possibly a mass airflow sensor.
Several weeks ago the wife went out to run an errand, on start up it loped several times then settled down and ran fine for several weeks.
Yesterday she calls me and tells me it won't start. I arrive to find it almost out of diesel (figures). I add 5 gallons to the tank by fuel can, just for good measure. It will start but has a bad "timing" issue and belches white smoke. I remove the superchips and set back to stock programing. I nurse it back to the house, by the time I arrive (5 miles) the truck will hardley run. No power at all, and barely idling. I have an inclined driveway and it barley made it up.
I have replaced the CPS less than 10,000 miles ago and the fuel filter less than 15,000 miles. Last month I had a water pump go bad on me and replaced it myself. ( I recommend getting the flywheel tool from Ford before starting this project!!).
Any thoughts??
Truck is sitting in the driveway awaiting your vast knowledge!
Thanks!!!
You'll find everything you need to know about your X and then some...
If you haven't done so, check out the "Read First" at the top at this and other forums.
As for your problem, not sure what to tell you, but what other mods do you have on your truck? (exhaust, intake, guages etc.)
I will be honest, I am speaking off of cummins experiance.
1. borrow obd II scanner from autozone.. scan
2. Check lift pump and/or fuel pump.
3. hoffed turbo (siezed it)
4. like stated before, check fuel filter.
I hope that this gives you a few places to start.
keep us posted.
