Prepump mod ready!

Ok. I have the Carter 4070 pump but not sure what filter to run before the Carter (or should I put it between the pumps) after I do the Hutch mod. I see some postings on the Dahl 100/150 also the Racor.......any advice on a good quality one that would be fairly easy to mount? Also a good place to purchase?

I have a Jody chip waiting in the box along with the SSHPX and billet T-stat housing/203 thermostat. I figure to do one at a time to see how well each performs.

I would talk to Ralph for a good MG filter. Check out my "clean fuel" link in my signature. LINK for MG filters.
Mount the filter after the Carter pump.

I recently purchased a 1981 Nissan diesel with a Racor fuel filter. I didn't look too impressive as a fuel filter but with the filter element removed it looked like it might make a decent sediment bowl. There was a decal that said not to use fuel additives with it. I use a lot of additives in the waste cooking oil so I tossed the filter and installed a submicronic filter. Back on the frame I will install a sediment bowl.
Normally with diesel engines where you get fuel from a busy station you don't need to worry about water in the fuel. You can concentrate on depth filtration to clean the fuel. If it has a dense media such as cotton or other depth element such as bathroom tissue it will clean fuel. I change the white bathroom tissue before it gets black. Some will carry an extra roll of bathroom tissue in a baggy and change the filter when the engine starts losing power. I have a fuel pressure gauge on the dash on the Ford 6.9. I have a 15 PSO Holly rotor and vane pump. On the little Datsun Nissan I have a little Carter that looks like a inline fuel filter with two wires. I hope to get the Datsun set up like the Ford soon. I am setting up a heated submicronic fuel filter for the Ford before the cold weather hits.
The Holly pump is a pusher. It needs the depth filter on the pressure side. I have a strainer on the suction side to protect the pump. It had a internal screen that had to be removed because it was much to fine for the stuff I deal with. I am getting my system perfected so that I can clean the fuel as I am pumping it into the truck. That way the truck filters don't have to deal with it as much. The depth filters are like a sponge. They will absorb the water and other contaminants until they can't hold any more then the smallest contaminants and water will start going on thru. If I don't change the big filter that I fill the truck thru often enough the truck filter will have to deal with it. I'm not as fussy as some, I get any fuel I can find and clean it. I am a happy camper if the fuel is clean when it hits the injection system.

Put the Carter as close to the tank as you can get it with no more than a strainer in front of it. Any of the filter set ups you mentioned will work fine. A cheap baldwin base with a spin-on <10 micron filter is a low cost alternative to the ones you mentioned.

i am going with a Dahl 150 as opposed to a 100, so i wont have to change out when my big fuel plans happen later on. getting mine from Dieselsite.com, for about $161, and $156 for a vacuum gauge that tells ya it's time to change.

Is there just a simple filter I can install between the 2 pumps, maybe something with just a screen till I get the funds for nicer system. It seems the factory filter will catch the rest for now. I am only going to use the truck for 2 weeks then it's back overseas till spring.
