Trailer Wiring?

Does anyone know what wire is what on the trailer wires for a 79 Ford? The wires in the kit and the ones on the original harness dont match. Any input, or should I try the towing section?

Which kit are you talking about ?

Truck wiring is basic as is the trailer.

Is this a 6 wire system or a 4 wire system?

You can wire according to the "standard" way or special to your truck/trailer.

I was going to type out the wiring hook-up for you but

They also make plug and play harnesses for most trucks that goes inbetreen the original plug at the rear of the truck. No splicing.

I am going to try using the Wire colors on your reference. If not I will explain in better detail tomorrow.

I agree with Lxman, there is no need to cut and splice. Go to the parts store and get a kit that will plug into your taillight harness. Cutting and splicing opens a can of worms for future problems. I can't even count how many pickups I've had to rewire the rear because of someone cutting up the wiring for trailers - when it's not neccessary.

Good point...

What's in your kit? It should have a T shaped connector the plugs into the taillight harness at the rear bumper.
