This is the Ignorant one again!!! On the 68 1/2 ton I was having trouble finding a driveshaft for, well, now I'm having trouble with the alternator bracket. Before I rebuilt the engine, I had an alternator bolt break off inside the block. The machine shop tryed to get it out for me but, instead of getting it out, they made it harder (case hardened). It was broke off flush with the block. I'm having trouble finding a bracket for it to relocate the mounting bolt in the end of the head. I have found several different factory brackets, however they still mount in the original location, right where mine is broke. Do you guys know of any aftermarket brackets made so that I can relocate the mounting bolt in the head????? This is probably the only thing keeping me from FINALLY getting to drive this thing after about two years. I've just about replaced EVERYTHING else on the truck. If it's not replaced, it's rebuilt, trans, engine, brakes front end, radiator, springs, etc. If you know of any kits that are out there, PLEASE let me know.
Thanks, Bill

My 68 had the same problem, so I had someone get it out, but I messed up and used the wrong length bolt when I put it back on.(stupid me) I stripped it out. So I had the guy put a heli coil in and it's been fine ever since. Even if they have to drill out the entire bolt, you can have it heli coiled for very little money.

The FE had two stock mounting positions both on the pass side. One is at the same height as the head and the other is about 8" lower than that. If you check around, you should be able to find a set of the low mount brackets on a truck in the junk yards.
Karl, the one that you refer to that is 8" lower is the one that is broke off in the block. I need the one that mounts in the higher position in the end of the cyl. head.
Numbersix, the helicoil thing is a great idea if I could get the old bolt drilled out! I have used Colbolt tip bits, to diamond tip Dremel bits, and nothing will cut into this thing. It has totally destroyed them all!! They,(the machine shop)have made the bolt so hard that I can't find anything to drill it. So I have to resort to another bracket. I guess that I could heat it again, but I don't on the other hand want to make the block britle to the point of cracking. Thanks for the tips, and info.
I did not know that Ford made a factory bracket that mounts where I need it to. I'll keep looking, but in the mean while, if any of you have the one I need, let me know. Maybe we could get together on a price. I don't have a problem with paying for the shipping charges. I need to drive this truck!!! HA HA
Thanks for the help guys, Bill
