rear end help

How do I tell what rear axle I have? I'm runnin a '79 f150 with the 300/C6, 2wd.

You can tell what rear axle you had from the factory by using the information on your data plate (door frame).

Or if you think it's not stock, you can do some things visually. Number of lug nuts, type of diff cover things like that.

H4 means locking (limited slip) 3.25:1 gears on 3750 lbs rating axle

The J stands for power steering.
