Hauling an engine??

I found an engine about 3 hours away from me that I want to buy...And since I sold my truck I have to rent one and I was wondering what is the best way to hold down an engine in the back of a truck????

What I've done when hauling an engine is to use an old tire (the wider the better), and set the engine down, right side up, in the middle of it, as close to the front of the truck bed as you can. It will help cushion the motor a bit, and will keep it from sliding around as well. Of course, you will want to tie the engine off to something to help keep it in place.

Use a 10.00 x 20 tire and some ratchet holddowns

I've used a tire a few times, then rachet tie it to the "cargo hooks"

The tire trick does work, but another way is to set it in a corner, and have a 4x4 block to set under the oil pan to keep it steadied, or a lesser block if the oil pan doesn't have that much of a drop. . It mainly depends on the oil pan shape, the type engine and all that. After getting it to sit fairly solid, ratchet tie it to the side so it can't move.
