My NP 435 has a horrible vibration in the shifter handle at cruising speed. I've had the drive line balanced but to no use. I noticed that this seems to be fairly common in my friends truck as well. Does anyone have any suggestions as how to fix this? Thanks

Is the truck a 2wd or a 4x4?
Remove the shifter and inspect the guide pin at the ball of the shifter rod. inspect the slot on the ball of the shifter rod. Check for wear in those areas.
drain and replace the gear oil on the NP 435 trans with a synthetic 75W90 gear oil.
Mine used to do this, only at cruise speed - if I accelerate or decel it would stop. Full of fluid, good mount, tight ujoints - couldn't find any problems. So I got some foam pipe isulation and slid it over the shifter and it stopped the noise. I don't hear any trans viberations and it looks better too.
ive got some vibration in my shifter when its in 3rd gear, but i dont pay much attention to it. sometimes i will jump from 2nd to 4th, and never have any problems with the vibration. but if there are any people good with trannys that have some good answers, i would be really happy!
The 435's have plastic bushings where the shift forks contact the shift collars. Assuming that the transmission is in good shape (no worn bearings, gears), these could be the cause of your noise. Very rarely have I seen problems with the shift tower or rails other than worn shift forks.
If the vibration is bad enough that it is trying to come out of gear, it could be a worn input/ output bearing, shift collar, and possibly the input shaft/ gear.
There is no other isolation or noise reduction bushings on these shifters. So every little noise or vibration is going to be felt or heard through the shifter. I've even had problems with noise in rebuilt 435's. Some of the later (80's)435's have a 2 piece shifter with a plastic bushing to help this.
You may need to buy the whole tower to make it work. There are 4 different styles of shifters and corresponding towers. The difference is the length of the shifter below the pivot ball and the depth of the cuts in the pivot. I may have some pictures somewhere if you need.
There is always the option of rebuilding it. Jeff's Bronco Graveyard makes a rebuild kit for it that would take care of any problem you have outside of the clutch and flywheel assembly.
