I have an 86 3/4 Ton suburban with a 6.9L from an 86 F350.I never had a single problem except for a little oil usage for several months now until a week ago.Every morning when i go out and start it i let the plugs hit 2 times then i crank it over.It fires right up,coughs and sputters, then dies.If you hold the throttle to the floor and crank for 2 or 3 10 second periods as if it were flooded it will finally fire. When it does start it rattles like crazy and runs bad,but if you shut it off,let it sit for a second and then fire it back up it runs great. No more rattleing than usual and it runs good.I can go all day without it acting up again. What is wrong with this thing?
Does it have the original fuel return lines on the injectors (painted gray). If the lines are painted gray then replace. I suspect air is leaking into the system. If the lines get brittle then they will leak air in but no fuel will leak out.
Thank you for the welcome Tim Lamkin, and thank you for the advice BigRedTruck.I did as you suggested,i replaced all the fuel return lines.i wouldnt have known it just by looking at those but they were trash. From the side just looking at them they looked new,but once removed they were cracked pretty bad.Truck fires right up and stays running now,and its running much better too.
