im haveing some performance issues with my carbed 351W lately. ive got an edelbrock performer intake with a 600cfm edelbrock carb on top and a HEI procomp distributor. some days ill fire it up and get some nice power out of it, and other days (or at a different time during the day) its got such weak power. im pretty sure its not the timeing because ive messed around with it for weeks. ive noticed if ive been idleing for a bit i get great power out of first and second, but once i hit third and fourth the engine makes a whole lot of noise and barely any power. as far as i know, the carb is stock calibration, should i be going a little richer? and if so, how much richer? my 2nd thought would be the vacuume advance curve needing to be adjusted, but i dont know if that would explain why 3rd and 4th gear are gutless even at high rpm's
You know I had the same problem with my 83 chebby that had an edelcrap on it.
My buddy had the exact same problem on his el camino, and we swaped a carter in place and it ran like a bat outa hell 24/7
A carb guy told me it was due to the cheap casting on those carbs.
I have a holley on my bronco and it never misses a beat.
edelbrock and carter carbs are pretty much the same though. i dont think swaping the carb is gona help me, im sure it just needs some tuneing. theres gota be someone out there that knows exactly how i can get the most performance out of the set up i got.
