I know where a complete F-5-6 MH dump truck is located in NW WI. Only problem is the guy who owns the yard doesn't sell complete vehicles and the parts he has he would rather wait for the next millionare to come along than to sell at a reasonable price. He's the guy who says "I don't have many left and they're not making any more".
you know thats what really upsets me the most. If a guy came up to me and said he wanted to buy one of my trucks to restore, i would say heck yes. It's not about making tons of money and getting rich. Its about preserving a classic vehicle and having fun. Its about going out for a drive and having everyone stare at you and your truck, and the whole time you know there thinking "man that is really awesome!" It's unfortunate that some think about money, and not about what guys like us are trying todo.
You can't begrudge a guy trying to make a living, but by the same token these guys don't do themselves any good by being greedy. The longer that Wisconsin M-H sits and turns to brown power, the less value it has either whole or in parts. Then the old man will go meet his maker, and the estate will clear out the place and send it all to be stamped into trash can lids (to borrow the Fordbarn quote). I mentioned on a different post that I've been watching a 51 F-3 in Kansas near my brother's place for years. The old man wants $2000 for it and won't part it. It's pretty much gone from the waist down, but has some great pieces. Maybe when he's gone his son will have a better grasp on reality. Stu
Well you guys are never going to beleive this! My buddy has come across my dream truck today at our local bone yard. Well it will eventually be my dream truck. He found me a 1951 F-8 Big Job. Of course with a 337 Flathead, 5 speed, and air brakes. The body is completly shot. But that matters not to me, for after talking to Chuck, i have found out my favorite body style (48-50) BigJob will fit on this chasis. I have wanted this truck for years!! Now all i have to do is get out of the yard before it gets crushed! Just thought you guys might want to know!! Jeff
I could be wrong, but I don't think you have to worry about finding a 2 speed rear end with an original M-H running gear. Think of it this way; some Roger Kaputnik driving along in 4wd, then for some reason only known to drivers of company vehicles, hits high range on the axle. First, there will be ka-CHUNK, then ker-CHING!
woops, as i was saying, the front axle is a 5.83 which is what the high gear needs to be on the 2 speed. Low is like a 6 something. Course i dont really understand why u would want 4x4 in high gear and not low.
