i recently wired up a cluster of auto-meter gauges. oil pressure, water temp, and voltmeter. (all electrical gauges) they work great, and look sharp.
my question is...
can i hook the stock water temp gauge and oil pressure idiot light up to the auto-meter sensors? i hate seeing my poor stock water temp needle just sitting there, doing nothing.
It may be possible for your Ford guages to work with the Autometer senders, but you will never be able to share a sender with two guages. The reading would not be accurate because one guage would be trying to read a resistance at the sender while at the same time recieving a signal from the other guage that is also trying to read a resistance. The only way to safely and accurately have both guages working is to have a sender for each guage. Not a big deal for oil pressure, just add a tee. But for water temp, you will have to find a second location. Not sure what engine you have, but the fitting on top of a 390's manifold that goes to the heater core would be a good place to drill & tap for the size of threads the sender has.
