Limited Slip Issue
2004 F350 Crew single rear wheel with limited slip differential. Recently I have noticed when going from drive to reverse the rear make a terrible clunkng noise. I only notice this when I have my 18 ft. enclosed trailer on. The trailer only carries a zero turn and walk behind mowers, not much weight. Has anybody experienced this type of problem before? The truck has 26,000 miles on it.

i'm definitely not a mechanic but sounds like a bad u-joint. does it only do it when going from fwd to rev? not vice versa. does the truck move at all while this happens. im trying to determine if the noise is something to do with loose ball mount or parts and not drivetrain

When you stop and shift into reverse the truck does not seem to move until the clanking stops, then you can back up. You can then shift to drive and it does not make any noise. It sounds like the limited slip differential is stuck and once you move a foot or so all seems fine. I only have noticed the noise when I have the trailer on. Possibly something to do with weight on the rear??
