A/C Idle problems

A/C Idle problems
My Explorer 4.0 SOHC has been idling roughly while in drive. Neutral smoothes it out as well as giving it some gas. In addition the A/C seems to cut out frequently while idling... Seems related only because they both began at the same time. Any thoughts or ideas would be greatly appreciated as its beginning to get hot driving without A/C!
