04 Expedition Starting

We have an 04 Expedition with about 22 K miles on it. When we hit the key, about 10% of the time the starter will kick out before it fires completely. It may fire slightly but not enough to go ahead and start the engine. You then have to crank it twice as long to get it to start. Now it has always starteed SO FAR, but I am worried about it leaving the Mrs. stranded.

Ford has looked into it twice and can't get it to do it in the shop. Seems to mostly happen when the engine is warm. Any ideas??

I know others have had similar issues. It was a faulty fuel pump.

Once in a great while mine wants to do it but it does start. I've noticed when it does it, I had instantly turned the ignition to start from the off position. I don't think the fuel pump had enough time to supply the needed fuel. Don't know if that's normal though. Try turning the ignition to the on position for maybe a second, then start it and see if that fixes it. I've heard cool temperatured fuel burns better than warm fuel but can't confirm if that's true. I know with our helicopter engines, they perform and ignite the fuel much better when it's not hot, but that's a different setup.

I also have an 04 with the same problem and had Ford look at it SEVERAL times with the same result. UNABLE TO DUPLICATE ISSUE COMPLAINED OF!
Next time I am there, I will bring up the Fuel Pump idea. Thanks.
