got a 66 4x4 the battery goes dead after it sit for a couple of days. All the stuff that I can be unplugged. Stuff like the horn and the stereo. It has been doing this since it got put back together from being painted. Has a new ingintion switch and battery.
Do you have a 12v test light? Unhook the positive post and put the test light in series there, if it is lit, you have a draw somewhere(note the brightness of the light). Now disconnect items(pull fuses) one at a time until the light dims or goes out, when it does, you have found the draw. For instance, to check for alternator problem, disconnect both the heavy + wire and then the small wires, if the light goes out there is a draw in the alt.
It is best to unhook the test light while you unhook each component to be sure no sparks occur, then reconnect to check the light. You can pull the fuses while the light is hooked up if you have one of those handy plastic fuse pullers.
