Man I am chasing down a few demons. Not sure this is the end of them but truck has a miss at idle and surges a bit. #3 plug wire, at the plug boot, is leaking spark to the heat shied (you can see it) on the exhaust manifold. Does this necessarily mean the wire is toasted or can I pry the heat shield away a bit and then it's good? If I should replace the wires (they were replaced about a year ago, supposed to be OEM fit, but most are long by about 4-6"), can someone recommend a good aftermarket brand that will fit OEM style? Are Belden okay? Thats what local NAPA has.
If you can see arcing, the wires are crap. Toss them out.
Go to your Ford dealership and see what they are charging for som Ford Racing wires. Sometimes you get lucky. Other brands I have had good luck with are MSD, Taylor, and Accel.
Pull codes to make sure your miss and surge is wire related while you are at it.
go to summit and get the 9mm ford racing wires. get a motorcraft copper plugs, be sure to route and seperate the wires properly and make sure none are touching each other and you should have no other issues. also pull codes because the bad wire may just be part of your problem
Well, I had to make a snap decision and went with NAPA's higher grade which had thicker inulation and seemed to fit better but maybe still longer than stock. I am using Autolite stock #25, is there a better plug?
