my truck came with just a radio only, not a cd player.... and i NEED a cd player... i would like to find a factory deck locally (ontario canada) but no one seems to be selling one... im worried about going with aftermarket as the stock stereo is so dam big.... anyone have an aftermarket deck installed, if so what did u do so it didnt look like a hack job (which im worried about) and do u have pix? much appreciated folks
Peronally if I was going to go with a stereo upgrade I wouldn't think twice about going aftermarket. For the same price you will end up getting a better quality stereo. The Ford Radio dimensions are a standard "DD" opening and is very common. You can go almost anywhere and find a stereo that will fit. Another advantage of it being a "DD" opening is that the most common size "D" stereo will also fit. Only thing is you will need a adapeter plate for this which will most likely result into a little storage place just above or below your stereo. go to www.crutchfield.com and the will show you exactly what stereos will fit your truck. I did a quick search and found only 131 CD Radios hat will fit. and the cool thing about crutchfield, although a little pricey...they will send you everything you will need for the installation such as wiring harnesses, adapter plates and instructions for free. They even sell resonably priced DD radios so it will look like a factory fit. and if you have steering wheel controls you can buy the a device that will integrate you stereo with them.
oh and in no way will it look like a hack job after it is done.
I'm due to upgrade my first aftermarket H/U (single din) to a full 6.5" multimedia screen . The first aftermarket H/U, I used a reducing kit that gave you a storage pocket in the remaing space where the factory radio was. I had thought of throwing a plate over the pocket for some Aux. switches; but I changed my mind. I'll throw out some pics when I get home to do the (full) change-out. (The new radio will fill the whole opening)
thats my cardomain i have uploaded pics here yet but you'll find a pic of my Pioneer, just your average size aftermarket with a pocket kit. And i did that myself so thats a backyard job, nothing professional.

jhag- what pocket kit is that? looks great would love to find one
This is a standard install kit for the single "D" size radio into a "DD" slot. Just about any install kit you will buy for this purpose will have one. It is very common and easy to find for the do it yourselfer...
