I have a friend with a problem in his 1967 Ranger. It has a V8, and an automatic transmission. The vehicle has been a farm vehicle all of its life. It only has 80,000 miles on it, and it's been well maintained. The transmission has been rebuilt twice already and may need it again, as he pulled it out due to problems with reverse engagement. He says when he shifted into reverse the truck acted as if it were in neutral and didn't back up at all. The engine revved, but no motion. He has the transmission out and drained, and we were trying to figure out if there is a common problem with these transmissions or if there is an adjustment somewhere. I thought that was a pretty bomb-proff transmission, but now I'm wondering. The professional rebuild would be $1,100 which is more than he's willing to spend on the truck. Any ideas, comments, or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much in advance,
Brendan
It's an FMX... does that help? I'm kind of stumped on it. It also has a transmission oil cooler that my friend seemed to think was unique to that tranny, and wouldn't be on another one found in the junkyard... thanks,
Brendan
