Well I decided after much research that an aftermarket tach. is a better idea then a junkyard OEM. This is mainly because there are only two gauge cluster for sale in town and the yards are asking over $200 for them. So, my question is what is the best source of power for an aftermarket tach? Also, what is the best way and location to mount the tach in the cab. My truck is a '96 f-150xl manual trans.
Have you checked Ebay? A 95 tach will work in your truck as well. With the 95 cluster you will have to pull the ABS bulb. I have a 96 and I have done just that.
I can get clusters around here for less than 50 bucks depending on where they are that day. If you would like I can search one out for you, test it, then send it to you. 96 tachs are a bit harder to find though. I have seen them on Ebay for around $100. Let me know.
I have checked Ebay and have found nothing. I would like to keep my truck a complete 1996. But a 1995 would be ok I guess. Why do you have to remove the bulb? And would that disable my ABS?
