you will need to regear your truck to bring back the performance you lost. i would go with 4.56 gearing. what kind of truck and engine do you have?

37's.....if you have a diesel, go with 4.56's.

If you have a V10, go with 4.88's

V8 - 5.13's

As far as a chip or programmer, get a Superlift Truespeed and you'll be good to go.

4.30s will be closer to stock in my opinion. I took off my worn out 37s and through on my 285s (32.7") for a few months in hopes of gas prices to fall and me getting the right set of tires. Good luck!

Matrix, I almost forgot..........Welcome to FTE!

Also, try the gear calcultor in my signature, it may help you pick the gears you want. Keep in mind, I'm running 36's and went from 3.73's to 4.56's and I'm still kicking myself for not going to 4.88's. They would have been perfect with the V10.

As to cost; for a 4wd truck, including parts and labor, expect anywhere from $900 to $1800 for a re-gear. It REALLY varies by area and what brand parts / level of install kits you use.

You can search the internet and find TruSpeeds for about $160, give or take. If you can follow instructions and cut and splice (by soldering) wires it takes all of 45 minutes to install and another 1/2 hour to calibrate with a GPS. It definitely made an improvement in shifts, they're a lot smoother now and I'm reasonably sure that what the speedo says I'm going, I'm actually going.

As far as what? On a diesel?

Just keeping within the meat of the power band and the inherent lower rpm range of the diesels.

The V10 with that size tire, like mine, needs a few more RPM's and the V8 slightly more.

Like I said, I'm still kicking myself for thinking that 4.88's would have been too deep. The math doesn't lie.

I have a V-10 with 37" tires and Im running 4.88s. My truck runs great. Also,as far as how much it'll be...depending if you have a 4x2 or 4x4. For me, I have the 4X and it cost me about $900 w/ install.

Thanks BFR and thanks for this site, I was able to collect tons of valuable info which makes it easy to decide what to get at the shop. I remember one of my very first post was...."what lift kit to get" and "what size tire"

I agree with BFR250SD, 4.88's only because it is a V10
