Most trucks do not have a cabin filter. The exby's do. You can look behind the passenger side kick panel to be sure.

I have had my K&N replacement filter in for a couple of years now. No problems yet. I have had one in my 88 Mustang 5.0 for over 150,000 miles now with no problems.

Don't bet the farm on it, but if I remember right there is one behind the glove box. I can't remember exactly, but you must remove the glove box door to get at it. You might try a seach here on this forum, I bet you'll find an answer.

Do a search; this has been discussed at length.

Very, very few of the '97 to '03 F150's have the cabin filter. They do have provision for one, but require cutting into the plenum, and installing a dealer kit. The dealer kit was in very limited supply, and has now been discontinued for many years. However, some here have been able to cut the plenum and insert a filter without using the adapter kit. It would seem that it might be difficult to fully seal the filter that way so as to prevent bypass, but I think there has been some reported success.

If you lay upside down on your shoulders on the floor in front of the passenger seat, and look up under the dash, you will see a long rectangular indented section close up against the firewall. That has to be cut out with a razor knife. The dealer kit has a metal template, but I think it would be fairly easy to cut inside the rim freehand. A fairly convoluted metal frame (in the dealer kit) is screwed onto the rim. The filter sits up against this frame and a plastic cover (again in the dealer kit) is screwed onto the bottom.

PS: I did mine several years ago, but as I recall, it is forward of the glove box and the glove box did not interfere.

MrBSS,

Do you plan on checking/replacing the filter anytime soon?

If so could you report on the filter condition?

I've been toying with the idea of adding a cabin air filter to my truck and was just wondering how clogged up the filters get.

Thanks,
Tim

Yes, I changed it recently. It was loaded. I would never allow my engine air filter to get that dirty! However, I have a hush panel from a Navigator which adds to the difficulty of changing it.

I get around to changing it about once a year, and probably should do so more often. I originally put it in to help my asthma. That has been less of a problem, but I can't say that this filter has been a reason, as I've changed medications and etc.

Mine is equipped with a cabin filter. Its just below the glove box compartment. You need to have a small wrench and lot of of dexterity to reach for it though.

tonycando-

If your talking about the ones behind the rear seat I believe those are vents. Possibly to alleviate cabin pressure when closing the doors and/or to help the cab breathe. As I recall there are some rubber flaps on the exterior of the vent that open out. Just a guess though.
