What is this?

What does this wire do? Its dirty,coroded,1 of the wires is about to fall off.

The way it looks is,1 wire comes off the Neg. post, then it splits into 2. The two go into a plug and 2 wires come out of that plug, the "output" wires are black with a green stripe and the other is black or white,I cant tell.

Its on a '89 4.9L 300.

I put this in the 4.9L forum as well.

Thanks.

Looks like the wires are used to ground the rad support. Since the rad support has rubber bushings it is grounded at the battery. I think the rad support is used to ground things like the horns, headlights and what ever else may be up there. I would fix it as weird things will happen with the electrical if it isnt grounded.

It is the fuel injectors and other actuators grounds going by way of pins#40 & 60 of the EEC Module. The engine will not run without these.

It has nothing to do with the items that mississauga talked about.

Sorry guys. You are right subford. I didn't look close enough at the picture. I went and had a look at my truck which I probably should have done the first time.

If its a ground for the computer, thats probably why my engine is running so rough. Them wires look like complete crap. The plug is all brittle and breaking away, wires are dirty and coming apart.

The Black wire with a Green stripe is what the diagrams show coming from the Battery and going to the Computer at pins #40 & 60 and I have verified it on my trucks.
The Black wire with a white stripe is not shown on any of my diagrams at the Battery and I do not have one on my truck. Some posters have said they have the Black wire with a White stripe at the Battery going to the Computer.
The Black wire with the White Stripe is normally Signal Ground for the Sensors coming from pin #46 of the Computer and hooked together inside of it to pins #40 & 60. Maybe they are not hooked together inside your EEC as they have run both wires to your Battery.

The OEM Battery Terminal has the wire(s) made into it, some body has replaced your Battery Cable with one without the wires so they hooked them to the nut on the Terminal.

No,the connection that the ground wires hook into,No one seems to know what its called. One place told me it would be better to just cut it off and put a wire striaght to the battery.
