331 block clearance

331 block clearance

Has anyone built a 331 (stroked 302) recently. I know of the 347's you have to clearance out the bottom of the cylinder sleeves for rod bolt clearance. Did you have to do the same with the 331?

what does your machine shop say. you are having a machine shop clean up the block, hone or bore cylinders etc..

You know I haven't really talked with them yet. I did have all the machining done but I and my son are going to do all the assembly work - little educational project for my son since it's for hi 73 truck. I'll give them a call but unless they build them on a rgular basis they may not know.

I had to clearance mine for the 331 stroker kit. Eagle cast steel crank, SIR rods (5.4") and SRP forged flattops. Mainly it's just the bottom of the cylinders that need attention.

Thanks - I don't expect too much to take off. Mainly, I saw a jig this morning from the mustang depot for doing that - was wondering if it would be worth the $30 or just mock it up and see just how much I had to take off.
