'03 Eddie Bauer 4x4 5.4L/3.73LS - I'm having my 30K service done next week. There's no mention of differential fluid changes in the owner's manual. I've always done diffs at 30K intervals and I tow with this truck.
I've heard/read something about a 100K differential service interval/lifetime fluid on the 03+ Expeditions? What do you all recommend/do?
i think the recommended interval is 100-120k,i think.requires 75w/140 sythetic and a bottle of friction modifier.if you to and are like me i like knowing that i have good fluids in my vehicles.i sleep better at night.and the repair shows your warranty company that you dont neglect your vehicle.
I changed mine out at 41k and glad I did. It looked really nasty with lots of metallic mixed in with the fluid. It looked like metallic paint.
I used the Vavoline 75-140 with the friction modifier already mixed in. Since I changed the fluid the whine from the rear diff. is almost gone.
If you have a limited slip you are going to have wear particles mixed with your fluid, with more being released when the diff. is new as it wears in. I don't see how it can be good for the bearings and gears to leave all that gunk floating around in the fluid.
