Ox vs. Elocker vs. Electrac for D44

I want to be able to lock my front axle if needed, and the Ox, Electrac, and Elocker make up the short list of my candidates. Car is a daily driver when I have a job, so that pretty much disqualifies most other lockers/LSDs.

Is there any reason why one would be clearly better than the others? I'm not planning on fording deep water, but one may never know when the axle gets submerged, so I somewhat vary about shorting the locker out. However, if the seals and connectors are good, that shouldn't be much of an issue. Also, I read somewhere that when it's not locked, the Electrac acts as an LSD. Is that true?

I don't expect to use it a whole lot, it would mostly be an insurance policy when something unexpected happens, such as when the passanger side sank to the axle a few days ago....

well i have heared negative things about the OX locker having terrible customer service... no CLUE if thats true or not.

the electrac however i have seen put to abusive use and i know for a fact that it is very quality.

i love my dana 60 e-locker....very simple and stout design....no solenoids or external parts to break or get hit li9ke the electrac....alos its a good bit cheaper than ox and electrac

Send OX and e-mail and see how quicly they respond. That should give you an idea about their customer service.

Why would customer service be so important that 2 people have mentioned that so far? If there is a need to call them, that usually indicative of some kind of defect or lack of proper documentation. In any case, I'll come up with some question, just to test their response time.

Anyhow, I took a closer look at one of the googled result for "elocker, Dana" -- http://www.4wheelerssupply.com/catalog/product_info.php/products_id/70692 -- and they only list some Jeeps in the fitment section. I thought that aside from the reverse cut gears, most parts are the interchangeable between front and rear D44s, even though the front D44 is hi-pinion. Anyone know it for sure?

ox has turned their company around, someone bough tthe original company out i think...all their sudtomer service and quality issues are resolved....but DANG they are expensive

You would think that Ox would position thier cable lockers above the cost of a detroit but before the cost of any other selectable. That would be the best market position I would think.

For a 60 I think the Ox is about $100 more, give or take a couple bucks, than an ARB. The only thing the Ox has is it's cable costs less than an air compressor from ARB. Not sure what the electrics cost.

Well, here are some prices from 4wheelparts:
Dana 44 Front Detroit Electrac Locker (3.92 & Up) $907.20
Dana 44 Electric ELocker (3.92 & Up) $728.79
Dana 44 3.92 & Up OX Locker $744.21

The electrac is by far the most expensive, though it's an LSD + locker. But for the front when I usually drive quite a bit on packed snow or ice, no way.

And here are some prices for comparison:
Dana 44 ARB Air Locker (3.92 & Up) $750.12
Dana 44 Detroit EZ Locker $299.95
Dana 44 Detroit Locker (3.92 & UP) $553.91
Dana 44 Auburn LS 3.92 & up, '71 & up $239.72

Oh yeah, and manufacturers don't seem to be very good about answering their email.

Yeah but with the ARB you get OBA automatically. That is what its got over the other top-o-the-line selectables...

I say ARB or E-locker

Consider this, which is easier to route and keep intact to differentail to control locking ? A cable, a pressure line (that needs a compressor to and need alchol injection in cold weather to prevent freezing) or a electric wire. THe answer in simple here, a very flexible wire which it easy to replace of repair if it is damaged.
