Just purchased a 2000 F250 Crewcab 4X4 automatic ,7.3. It has 128000 miles on it. What are some things I should keep an eye out for. How good are the trannys. Its a good clean solid truck. Was owned by rodeo guy pulled horse trailers with it.
Congrats on the new truck, I am sure you are going to like it very much. As for things to watch for the CPS would be the main thing, buy a new one and install it now and throw the old one in the glove box for a spare. Or throw the new in the glove box and and do a search and read up on how to change them. Some people have had troubles changing them, so be prepared. As for the trannys they are the week link but as long as the fluid is red and doesn't smell burnt and the tranny is shifting fine you should be okay. It might not be a bad idea to have the tranny flushed just to be sure. These are great trucks and you shouldn't have any trouble with yours, you still have lots of miles left in it. If you have any questions just do a search, there is lots of info here. If that doesn't work just ask somebody will be able to help you out.
I recommend a search in this forum on the word FLUID. Then go change every one of them per the directions. Trans, xfer case, rear diff, steering, etc. Hang out and read the forums, do the CCV mod and have fun!
hey congrats on the new truck. there are a few basic mods that most people do. basically lets the truck breathe, pull air in easier and push the exhaust out easier. and gauges to monitor it. my advice is to browse over the recent 5 or 10 pages of forum postings, and see what im talking about. many of them are answered by simply looking and learning. i also agree with FatDiesel, change out ALL the fluids, just so you know that they are fresh, its peace of mind.
-engine oil
-coolant (flush)
-rear diff
-front diff at that many miles
-powersteering (flush with synthetic ATF while you....)
-flush transmission, maybe add a shift kit to give it some pep back (19 qts if done right)
-transfer case (holds about 2 qts, synthetic ATF again...
get reading, and if you still cannot find an answer, just ask, we're here to help.
congrats on your new truck. take some time and go over the stock air box,if it still has one. they are VERY bad at cracking thus letting dust, dirt and anything else that will fit through. pull off the intake tube and check your turbo for cracked, bent or broke compressor fins. i know from experience what the oem filter box will do to your turbo and engine. have fun!
What are you calling the CPS? It also has a chip of some kind it. I plugged it back in. IT has a high air flow system on it and the muffler has been removed from it. Sometimes the tranny shifts hard and sometimes it shifts too quick, depending on the amount of throttle given. It has a Bullydog programer if the car dealership can get in touch with the guy that traded in the truck.

cps-cam posistion sensor bullydog programmer may have a way to set the parameters for the tranny shift like the diablo predator but not for sure

In some states, there is a law that requires them to disclose the previous owner info. If this is not the case in your state, I would use personal skills and you can usually get it done. Good luck. Just because a truck is chipped or used for towing doesn't mean it's no good. These are tough trucks. Welcome to the Powerstroke experience.
