I couldn't locate the thread about all the rearends that would swap to our year model trucks. I have a 1953 F-100 and I am about to have a 86 Crown Vic with a running 5.0 HO and AOD trans. Will the rearend from the Crown Vic swap straight into the 53? I don't mind modifying the rearend to make it fit. I just don't want to modify the truck frame.
BMAN, the 67-72 Ford 1/2 ton is one of choice, its a great fit and the options for gear ratio are plentiful.
A friend of mine runs a stock Flathead with the stock 3 speed and a 3.25 gear ratio he claims it works great. Make sure when or if you get one its from a V8 truck. These rear ends are great, I have run a few myself you will love it.
I used a 67 F100 9 inch in my 53. It was almost an exact fit for stock. The spring perch width changes somewhere in that series of trucks (67-72) because I measured a 72 F100 and the spring perches were a bit wider (I think by 1/4 inch). That's is probably the easiest swap you will find. I have an article on my site at: www.f100central.com
The Ford 9" is still the choice among truck owners, street rodders, etc. If you pick up this months issue of Classic Trucks, they did an excellent article on the Ford 9 inch rear end and third members. I learned quite a lot from reading the article.
just spent half the night trying to fit my 9" with 3.25 gears (1969 F100) in my truck....the ubolts i had made to fit the original springs were too tight for the newer rearend...have to go 2-1/8 or 2-1/4 inch wide to make it all fit nice.....check out the threads people have left...this was an easy swap until that moment....all the parking brake cables and brakes work perfect...
