Hello William, I have noticed two posts from you recommending against headers. Because of this, I was quite curious about your thoughts and personal experience with headers and started a post instead of a PM because I felt there are probably other who would like to view this information as well.
Headers are a big investment, especially for my 90'. So I would definitely like to learn all the pros AND cons.
My new headers for F-100 are for clearance reasons. I installed lond tube headers on my 03 Cobra to help it breath better. It really did not add much to the h.p./torque-but helped the engine maintain what I had over a broader rpm range. Note: engine is pushing 640rwhp/590 lbs tq.

I build trucks with Ford engines for reliability, drivability and comfort. Headers are great for racing, pulling and for those trucks you see hauled on a trailer to shows and pushed around the grounds by people with cloths under there hands. Advice I provide here will be geared for this audience and truck applications. I think it is silly for someone to spend money for headers on a street driven truck that will not see 4K RPM during the daily commute. My latest project is a 466/C6 in a 66 F100 SWB. I used truck exhaust manifolds and 2 ¼ duals into a big Flowmaster (I forget the number). Quiet! Powerful! This truck is an absolute joy to drive!

I just got to jump on this one. I put the Banks Power Pack on my F53 motorhome (truck with a house on it) to get rid of the exhaust bolt problem and gain performance. I would assume my 460 had the truck manifolds that you refference. There is no way you could get the performance from the stock manifolds that I get with the Banks kit. I have to open the drivers window if I want to hear the exhaust. So noise is not a problem. But when you hang your foot in it, there is no doubt it's other than stock. Best bucks I've ever spent on an engine.
