YRaising the idle helps in the cold weather to maintain engine operating temps, you don't need to worry about that in the summer months.
Very true. But, I have found that the A/C seems to work a little better and blow just a bit colder air when I kick the idle up. May not be that way in everybody's truck, but it definately is in mine.
Can you give a little more info on the APCM you have. Cost, ease of install, etc... I've got a high idle setting on my chip, but I'm thinking about some other ideas for that spot on the chip.
Sure. I have the APCM that is made by Ford. I am not sure of the acutal cost, as I acquired mine for free from an ambulance....however, ebay is the place to check for them. Installed.....about 30 seconds. Just plugs into the factory installed pkug right under the removable panel below the steering wheel. That's right....every truck is pre-wired. :-) GO FORD!!!

Same here....a/c at 1300 at idle is awesomely cold.

Sweet! I guess I'll start watching the auctions. Thank you!!
No problem. If you do happen to get one that came from an ambulance, let me know and I will get you the reprogramming stuff....it is not to hard to do.... :-)
What others have mentioned so far is called the CAP (Cold Ambient Package). The EBPV closes and the idle raises when air intake temps and oil temps get low enough. International calls this the Warmup Device.
I think the more research people do, the more they see that the PSD just isn't very susceptible at all to wet stacking. The APCM is nice for bumping up the idle if your A/C is lacking coldness from the standard idle, but not necessary for wet stacking concerns. I say let it idle as long or as much as you want, and in whatever temps you want. The fellas who live in Alaska and work on the North Slope let them idle almost nonstop as it's so extremely difficult to restart, and I know of one in particular that has a large fleet in an extremely cold climate and idles constantly... no problems. In all the reading I've done, and that's been a LOT, both here and on other sites and from past discussion in excess, I've never once seen anyone post about having wet stacked a PSD.
I should mention that International does mention that after idling for long periods of time, when you go to drive the truck normally or have a couple firm accelerations, any deposits built up burn right off. If anyone's interested in some reading from International... I can find some links to a few Bulletins they've put out regarding the Warmup Device and extended idling.
I say just idle as much as you want, don't worry about it and enjoy your truck!

Good luck with that, Jeremy... I've watched a few auctions for them myself and they tend to get pretty darn pricey. You may be able to ****** one up that not many folks see. You can always make a homemade version for cheap, but requires some wiring. Then of course there's Jody's chip you can get programmed.

That sounds suspiciously like what we talk about in the Mercedes boards to do. I think it is called the ITU. Italian Tune Up. You find the loneliest straight stretch of road and nail it WOT.
I am exempt because every chance I get, it is an ITU
The A/C will be colder with the idle up. This is because the engine fan is drawing more air over the condensor, lowering its temps and making the A/C system more efficient.
