I have a 99 Super Duty with a V10. When pulling under load the air seems to only come out slightly cool. I have it on Max A/C and it can't cool the cab down. When I take it off cruise and slow down the air seems to work fine. Any Ideas
Another serious issue is the hot water in the heater core reduces the efficiency of the factory AC system
Search for all the excellent ideas on how to add in a valve to the hot water hose going to the cabin so you can stop the heat load in the summer time
Note.... never add a shut off valve and leave it shut off for long periods of time
The coolant must circulate frequently to prevent internal corrosion and perforation to the in cabin heater core.... this can make an exceptional mess and cost a fortune in labor to fix!

Are you talking when downshifting on a grade that your A/C scales back?
Because I would think that's normal. At least I hope so. Mine does it. But if you're seeing this during normal driving when just pulling a trailer, then there might be something wrong.
I have a 99 F350 SD Crew and my helpful fix to my A/C efficiency during our hot Texas summers was to tint the windows really dark, 5% even on the drivers windows.
Its illegal as all get out, but it makes a big difference in keeping the cab cool in between uses and really cuts out the heat while I am driving it! The down side is every year I will have to get the drivers windows re-tinted after inspection, but to me it makes that much difference! I have found Ford A/C systems lacking over the years compared to the chevy's I have owned, but the Powerstroke is the best engine I have ever owned!
Ford trucks use alot of vacume operated devices. when the truck is at wide open throttle or close to it, the devices loose vacume. That causes the vacume motor in your a/c ducting to change direction. The air will still be blowing it just blows out a different place, like the defrost vents. Check for vacume leaks in the system, they are very common when the vacume hoses get old and brittle. That would reduce the amount of air volume comming from the vents, not likely the temperature.
