just recently bought a '72 250. Right now I also have a '85 250 with a NP435 that i would like to swap in the '72. The '72 has a 360 FE series engine. I was wondering about bellhousings. The 85 NP435 uses the windsor bellhousing-what bellhousing did the FE series engines use or is this gonna be a direct fit? Haven't pulled either trannys out yet so...
If the '72 has a manual tranny also, the NP435 should bolt right to the bellhousing of the '72.
FE bellhousing pattern is specific to the FE. It wasn't shared with any other engine family's. But the tranny to bellousing bolt pattern on the NP435 is the same as the rest of Ford's manual trannies of the era. A toploader and a NP435 can be bolted to tthe same bellhousing.
