Believe if you look into the FTE 'articles/spec's' section there is some info. There is also an article in 'classictrucks magazine' http://classictrucks.com/tech/0404cl_tank/ which provides some info on moving tank under bed. There is also an article in 'classictruck' http://classictrucks.com/tech/0204ct_gastank/ with some info to include referral.
I have a couple of good pictures in my gallery of my fuel tank on my 64 f100 long bed. placed in back between the frame rails, it was actually done by a freind of mine Carl Smith: out of Norco Ca. he hand built it and did an excellent job. Cost was fairly cheep I don't have exact cost because I had a few things done by Carl at the time. But you can see what it looks like. I hope it helps
I can certainly think of better things to have behind the seats besides a gas tank, like a nice set of subs that go BOOOOOM instead of a tank that can go kaboom.
Thanks for the posts Rob and Dave, this is certainly something I am gona do on my Slick
I don't know I had a 59 that I sold in 80 and the tank was still behind the seat. Never caused any problem or gave me any concern. I think I'd sooner have it behind me than in my lap like the model A.
Purchased 65 F100 in 1970 and have'nt moved the tank. Must admit, after filling the tank, have had second thoughts about lighting up a stoogie. Don't recall ever hearing of tank exploding, but really have'nt been looking.
You know I didn't relocate my gas tank out of fear of EXPLOSION.. I had it moved for two reasons # 1 "the fumes" I didn't really care for them all that much. #2 I wanted to have the ability to move the seat back as far as possible.
Remember the cab of a truck is not like the inside of a car, so you look for space where you can get it. I can now put some awsome speakers there or anything else I want and still have my seat as far back as possible. When I'm cruising you can't see me from the side unless I lean forward. Thats kinda the reason for the steering wheel I have, it gives me all the room I need in the belly area, not to mention it's one badass steering wheel . If the gas tank goes boooom in the back, I'm sure I'm going to feel it just like if it was in the cab. but that's never been my concern. I like everything to look clean and smooth and smell good.
But that's just me.
lol...i think you all took me wrong ...Im not concerned about it blowing up, I just rather have a nice speaker box back there that hits so hard it makes you go . I still smoke like a freight train even after a fill up (once the fumes go away)..If im gona go, might as well go out with a bang..lol
I have always had a booming system of sorts since I was 17. Im 31 now and dont plan on changing that, plus I just dont like the gas lid on the side of the cab.
Those fumes dont really get bad in mine. I think the most of the fumes come from the window being open during a fill up, because it never smells of gas in the morning after being closed up all night.
You know, I could always cut holes in the tank and put speakers in there, but then I would have to be careful of which songs i played too loud..lol Lots of boom, might become a literal reality..... I might just have to move it
I wonder when ak32 is coming back in here....Im sorry for stealing part of your thread.
thanks guys sorry i havent been here, im 17 and my truck has been at this guys shop getting painted for 18months, he barely ever works on it so i have to go up there and work on it with him, which is cool but i would rather work on the engine and interior rather than body since that is why he is getting paid but whatev. but anyways thanks
I don't have a fume problem and the tank has been there since 65 when my grandfather bought it, and the seat will not go any further back when tank is removed.
I have thought about a frame tank just for more capacity, but if I can't get one there without moving the fill kneck I just will not move it.
