Noise when accelerating
Local shops say this is normal for my 157K mile vehicle. It might be normal but not what I like to feel or hear.
Any thoughts will be appreciated. Thanks
That grinding sound is possibly normal for a worn out vehicle.
Some sources of grinding sounds are brakes, differential, universal joints, the tranny, wheel hubs, anything riding on the fan belts etc.
One thing that is sometimes easy and cheap to check is to remove your fan belts and see if the noise goes away. If it does then it is something like , alternator, AC compressor, powersteering, idlers etc.
Depending on how long you plan to keep your truck, it may be worthwhile to have the hubs inspected and greased. Also check the tranny and diff fluid and or change them.
At 157K miles, things may be wearing out and making noise, but a grinding sound is something that is telling you it is going to fail in the not so distant future.
Good Luck,
Jim Henderson
