Need help with carb spacer

Hey! I am puting a four barrel edelbrock carb on a weiland intake. Should i put on a carb spacer? What are the advantages of them, and would i need gaskets for both sides of the spacer or does it act as a gasket? Lastly, whats the diff between a square and a four hole intake? Thanks!

I always use a 1" 4-hole spacer. They make the intake runners seem a little longer and usually increases torque and throttle reponse. They also help keep heat away from the carb.
