That's the popular look today in the Rat Rod culture the less pretty the better. Have you seen the 57 "Green Haired Stepchild "in the August issur of Classic Trucks Magazine. When I was getting close putting my 51 on the road it was close the end of summer here and with the rain I didn't want to just put primer on it. I threw on some John Deere Blitz Black and have done some spot repair with the spray bombs and it looks like i'm right in style now. LOL

It looks in so good of shape in its original condition that I would reconcider chopping it.. I'm not necessarily an "Original or nothin" kinda guy but its a lot easier to restore a truck to original if its already close to original and not cut up.. Originals tend to go for more than a hot-rod now-a-days, unless its a very well done hot-rod. We've all seen a lot of chops that go poorly and then they either spend thousands of dollars repairing it or sell it for parts..

Take my truck for instance.. it was already hacked up.. I could go either way, making it a stocker or customizing it. I haven't actually decided yet which way I'm going, hahaha.

Don't change all your plans because of my opinion, though. After all, its just an opinion

Stock or modified are both nice, with a good solid complete truck such as your`s I would consider a stock body and maybe a modified frame/power train. On my 56, with alot of work it could go back to stock, I have the orginal frame/power train stored in a building.

The motor is probably the 226 95HP Flathead 6, that is the same motor I have in my 51F1. Look at the cast number in the head it should 7HA, or OHA. also there is the engine number at the pan rail below the Generator, that number should start with 7HA also.
If it has been sitting for awhile not running I would pull the spark plugs a put some Marvel Mistery Oil in the cylinders, turn it over by hand and let it set.

I'm thinking your right. The head has a number of 7HA6050-c2, The block has a number of N L227, and I even have a number on the thermastate housing of 7HA 8281. Whith that info I can get the parts needed for any repairs down the road. engine rebuild kits, parts, that type of stuff. It ran a few years ago and sence then The starter came up missing. so I will need to get one of those for sure.

Try and get it started and run it for a while before tearing into it, my 226 had sat for 15 years prior to my purchase. It was free, but the valves were stuck open and it had very little compression. I dumped Marvel Mistery Oil in it and kept turning it over and adding more for a three week period. I mananged to get it started and kept it running till the valves freed up. Sense my driveway is on a downward slope my plan was to use the engine to move it around while i was cleaning the frame and getting it roadworthy. After a year of working on it and getting it close to being driveable again I began having issues with my Accord any started driving the F1 so I could work on it. The more I drove it the better the Flathead ran and the less oil it used and leaked. Now after driving it daily for the last 2 years it is running great (Accord is sitting) and using very little oil and hardly leaks any at all. The only things I have done to the engine so far was rebuild the Carb and purchased a rebuilt Distributor and a tune up. I recently did a compression test and checked the vacuum and that Flathead seems to be in fine condition. Hard to believe considering the last time it was rebuilt was 1972 according to the PO.

Wow--looks like you've got a solid rig on your hands. I have to echo prior sentiments, that keeping a truck this original, in restored-to-original shape makes it a much rarer and more valuable find.

With that said--YOUR truck is YOUR truck! Make it your own! And have a blast doing it!
