You got the correct terminalogy. Monetary rape. They know they can get away with it. Plus they wanted to change the fuel filters at 17,000 kilometers, just over 10,000 miles. A little early...........
The service rep said that is the recommended service interviews from Ford Canada. I told her this truck was custom built for me in Kentucky and I will follow the USA, American guide line.

What does your owner's manual state... that is the first place to look and show the Ford dealer.
Second, the only time one would need to due it early is if you suspect poor fuel or performance problems which could be cuased by a clogged filter (low fuel pressure to injectors) in one or both filters.
The truck runs great. I refused the fuel filters until later. Will have them changed at the big # 4 service.
Lousy lacquer over the paint. Scratches all the time. The paint is that beautiful deep burgandy maroon with the gold bottom. The dealers here won't do any thing. Wished I lived in the states. Probably the truck would have been repainted. Here they just look at it and say uh Hun.
Anyone know the IH part number ofr the Oil Filter? Noted the Fuel filter earlier in the thread . . .
Someone will reply as I buy my oil filters (Motorcraft) at Walmart or Advance Auto Parts for $19.99/ea.
Others use the Fram oil filter which has the exact same markings and patent numbers on them and must be made by Racor as well... and they are slightly cheaper at Walmart as well.
The 6.0L motor Ford uses and calles the Powerstroke is the Intl's VT365 model motor.
Wait by days end and I bet someone will have a part number for you on the oil filter.
Changing the fuel filter is easy..I jacke up the left front of the truck and then take the front drive shaft loose and tie it up out of the way for more room. Loosen that 6mm hex thing bolt on the HFCM..allow it to drain ..it will drain approx a cup and half fuel..then take the remove the fuel filter cap..that big 36mm cap..remove filter put new one in and put things back together..then replace the little filter on top of the engine. after everything is put back together then turn the key foward..wait..turn off..turn foward and wait..then start it up. real easy to do.
For me, this was a very timely thread. Due for the change and cringing at the dealer costs some guys were quoting.
I called a local International trucks parts shop and picked up the fuel filter kit this evening. $41 CDN incl tax. The parts shop is open until midnight as well !
Anyway, never did this before but just followed the process in the tech folder. Done in an hour without any problems. Feeling pretty mechanically gifted right now - for a telco HR guy anyway. Even better - got the telco rate on the parts...
Today I ventured over to the IH dealer and picked up 4 oil filters ($14.95 ea). He did not have the fuel filters in stock. I took them home, pulled out one of the NAPA Gold filters I have new in the box and see very little difference. The IH one is a nat hair longer, but the element looks the same. The NAPA filter does have a plastic sleeve in the middle with holes...the IH has none. I don't see the big deal here with the oil filter.

Are you speaking of oil or fuel filters?
There has been discussion on another site and here at FTE, that the Racor/IH/Motorcraft oil filter is longer than NAPA oil filters and properly seats in the housing. The shorter NAPA oil filter (as you said is a nat hair shorter) allows the filter housing drain valve to remain open and drains the oil back into the motor. This is what happens when you open the oil filter cap and should not happen at any other time. The valve is to reman closed which keeps oil in the filter & housing and prevents dry starts.
It is this "nat hair" size difference that is the "big deal". If your OK with it... then great. As well, just becuase the "filter looks the same" does not mean it is the same. The stock oil filter media will filter to 20 micron as quoted by Racor when I called. Call NAPA and they will not tell you or know... as would/could be expected...as they do not make their filters... they have them made for them. Racor makes their own and re-sells then to IH, Motorcraft and Framm as others have noted when comparing patent numbers and "made in Germany" on the filter.
What did you pay for your NAPA Gold filters as compared to the $14.95 from the IH dealer?
Fuel filters differences have been answered and links posted as to the difference.
Thanks BBum for explaining the nats hair reason. I am not sure what I paid for the Napa filters. I went ahead today and had the Ford dealer change out the fuel filters. I will do it next time (especially at $117!).
Got the fuel filters ($31 w/ tx), Oil filter ($12 w/ tx) and the Brass replacement part ($18 w/ tx) for draining the fuel filter at the International dealer in Houston.
The manual say's the fuel filter drain *** is a 6 mm allen wrench, I haven't crawled under the truck to check this BUT the replacement part isn't a 6 mm or any other allen, metric or standard, that I have.
It is smaller than a 6 mm, it is smaller than a 7/16th, and it is larger than the next sizes down!
What is it suppose to be?
