My fuel pump went T/U when I was in the middle of the desert. I had to have the it towed to Mojave and it took them no less than 20 days to get to my truck and fix it. I told them to make sure and change the fuel filter while they were changing the pump. They tried to charge me $178 just to change the fuel filter they were going to have to put in the new pump anyway. Also in looking at the invoice it only listed Qty 1 and one part number so I question did they change the one on the engine? The filter supposedly cost $98. I want to change the one on the engine if they didnt.
I am sure they used the kit which has both. That is pretty much what the dealerships around here are charging for them, and as guydiver said, I don't believe you can buy them seperately at the dealer. What was the part number listed on your invoice?
Check your local International dealer, I got the 2 filter set for $33 plus tax! I bought 4 incase there was a mistake! I also tried to buy just the engine mounted filter there and they told me that they were only avail as a set. They are the exact same thing I bought at the Ford dealer last month. Nice savings......

One would think this came with the fuel pump. I cant imagine they would take the fuel pump off without changing the filter that is attached to it.
The thing that burns me is they replaced the front and rear mains which was very involved and included removing the transmission but they were going to charge me $178 bucks for the changing of a filter they should have done anyway.
That said when it failed I was so upset I was ready to sell it. When I picked it up in Mojave 20 days later I fell in love again!
Sears has them online for $8.95 and free shipping. You can always go to the local Sears store too, call 1st thought.
There is no way that Sears has quality fuel filters for the 6.0L motor. Even the 7.3L (if they made a mistake) are more than $8.95/ea. If Sears did have them, them for the 6.0L (I have no proof either way).. they are more than $8.95!!!
I would call and double check, but a quality fuel filter (even poor quality) for a 2 filter kit is not $8.95!!!!
Please post the item or model number for this filter kit so I can call and verify please.
"If you DO want to DIY, the above post has the filter kit (2 filters) and there is also a replacement drain plug for the HCFM you may want to get, part #2589259C91 - $13 or so from Intl truck dealer + $30 for the filters and you can see why $250 is obscene. Mine is on my list for this week, I figure it can't take more than 1 HR or so from reading other posts. Even if I make a bit of a mess, I can afford some cleaning supplies for the saved $$ and I'll get better by the next time. "
What does thius replacement plug part do instead of the stock plug? I have an '06 6.o and there is no lever like the manual says so does this convert it?
No it does not have a lever but it does have a knurled thumb type screw that you can twist in there. The stock one can strip out so the replacement one is harder to strip out and if it does there is something to get a hold of so you can at least get it out. BTW the change should only take you about 15 minutes. 30 if it is your first time.
