I have a 1998 Ford Explorer. The driver's side power door lock switch will only close all locks. It will not open any of the doors locks, with the engine on or off. However, if the engine is off, the remote will open all of the locks. Passenger side switch works fine, with engine on and off. I have changed the driver's side switch, and the same problem exits. I don't think it's the actuator, since it works fine, with the remote and the engine off. Any Suggestions ?

likely a wiring short that is applying power to one of the wires when the vehicle is on. Once off it stops applying the power and the door lock switch is able to get the correct signal to the relays in the back of the truck. While that exact symptom is not common the lock/unlock not working is. In my case it was locking the doors, another fellow here had it with the unlock, in both those cases is was a wire or splice that went bad somewhere under the rear driver's side passenger seat (there are a lot of wires under there). Other folks have had, and this is where I would suspect you may have an issue, to fix a broken wire in the group that goes through the door (enough stress has cause one or two to fail). I would start, however, by removing the power door lock switch and making sure that everything is clean.
I am not currently at my home PC so I can not post any of the wiring information... but it has been discussed in other threads here so a search might yield that info.
